From The Publisher:

In this definitive book on the real, historical Jesus, one of our foremost biblical scholars meticulously sifts the evidence of 2,000 years to portray neither a rural magician nor a figure of obvious power, but a marginal Jew.

Reviews

"Future scholars are certain to judge John Meier's book as one of the foremost studies ever written on the historical Jesus...A brilliant accomplishment!"
—Jack Dean Kingsbury, Editor, Interpretation, Union Theological Seminary in Virginia

"This book is a wonderful example of judicious historical scholarships. It should be required reading for all historians, pastors and theology students."
—Pheme Perkins, Boston College

"Honest, refreshing, critical, readable. Other books on this most written-about and least verified topic combine some of these qualities: this one, controversial as its conclusion may be, has them all."
—Louis H. Feldman, Yeshiva University
