The Writings of the New Testament 3rd Edition Luke T. Johnson
Description From The Publisher: Luke Timothy Johnson offers a compelling interpretation of the New Testament as a witness to the rise of early faith in Jesus. Critically judicious and theologically attuned to the role of the New Testament in the life of the church, Johnson deftly guides his reader through a wealth of historical and literary description and invites critical reflection on the meaning of these ancient writings for today. The third edition is carefully updated and includes new student-friendly format and features, including a new design and study and reflection questions. Other resources for teachers and students, including different suggestions for teaching from or alongside the textbook, are available on a companion website. Reviews "Johnson is extraordinarily successful in leading the reader into the New Testament texts themselves. . . Imaginative in conception, clear in presentation, and lively in style, the book deserves the wide use it is sure to enjoy for some time to come." Abraham J. Malherbe "Nothing available so well combines knowledge of the history and literature with concern for the lived experience behind the New Testament texts." John R. Donahue, S.J. "By focusing upon the inner social and religious experiences of the primitive Christian communities in which the writings of the New Testament were produced, Johnson is able to stress literary qualities and social dynamics. . . It is a very attractive work. . . Johnson's hand is a guiding and a sure one, based upon thoroughly researched and contemporary information." William G. Doty
