Bibles

1890 Darby Bible – $29.95
As an ex-Anglican minister and the founder of the Plymouth Brethren, Darby's influence started the Niagara Conferences, which were the beginnings of prophetically-oriented Bible conferences in America. First published in 1890, this translation comes after Darby's understanding of the original languages matured during the writing of his French and German translations of the Bible.

American Standard Version – $19.95
The ASV has long been regarded by many scholars as the most literal English translation since the King James Version- maybe the most literal translation ever. This has made the translation very popular for careful English Bible study, but not for ease of reading. While the KJV was translated entirely from "western manuscripts," the ASV 1901 was influenced also by the older "eastern manuscripts" that form the basis for most of our modern English translations. Because the ASV 1901 is very difficult to find in print, Logos is pleased to be able to preserve and distribute this significant work. This is an excellent choice for comparative English study.

Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (Morph) – $99.95
A revision of Kittel, Biblia Hebraica, prepared by H. P. Ruger and other scholars on the basis of the Leningrad Public Library manuscript B 19A Copyright 1984 by the United Bible Societies. Often referred to as the "Masoretic Text" or simply "BHS," this is the Hebrew text most widely used today. It is the basis for nearly every modern Bible translation. Containing both full diacritical annotation and vowel pointing, it is the text of choice in most seminaries, Bible colleges, and universities.

Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (Non.Morph) – $49.95
A revision of Kittel, Biblia Hebraica, prepared by H. P. Ruger and other scholars on the basis of the Leningrad Public Library manuscript B 19A Copyright 1984 by the United Bible Societies. Often referred to as the "Masoretic Text" or simply "BHS," this is the Hebrew text most widely used today. It is the basis for nearly every modern Bible translation.

Byzantine Majority Textform – $34.95
Coming from the "western manuscript tradition," the Byzantine majority Greek text is a "theoretical text." Put together from hundreds of fragments and pieces, it represents the "text" that agrees in the numerical majority with most, if not all, known western manuscripts and partial manuscripts. It is from this family of "western" or "Byzantine" texts that the King James Version and the Dutch Staten Vertaling came into being.

Five Books of Moses – Fox, Everett - $39.95
The Shocken Bible: Volume 1. The Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. A New Translation with Introductions, Commentary, and Notes by Everett Fox. This translation is a stunning achievement - to read it is to hear the Bible as if for the first time. While other English translations of the Bible render its language as if it had been written in English, this new translation re-creates the full force of the Bible’s original rhetoric and poetry-it’s rhythms, nuances, and stylistic devices - allowing the English reader to experience the spiritual and aesthetic power of the Bible’s own voice while recovering layers of meaning that are missed entirely in conventional translations.

God's Word – $24.95
God's Word is today's most unique new Bible translation! God's Word is faithful to the original meaning of the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek languages through which God spoke to his people in earlier days. And by using the widely acclaimed linguistic translation method, God's Word communicates the same meaning - the literal meaning - to God's English speaking people today.

Good News Bible – $19.95
This Bible uses simple everyday language and vocabulary shared by everyone regardless of age or background. The "dynamic equivalence" in translation communicates the meaning and style of the original in a unique way. Also known as Today's English Version.

Also known as the "Authorized Version," is still the most widely used text in the English language. The Logos KJV includes the Strong's Numbers which allow English readers to identify and search for underlying Greek and Hebrew words in the original text.

Includes the books of I & II Esdras, Tobit, Judith, Additions to Esther, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, Baruch, Letter of Jeremiah, Song of Three Youths, Susanna, Bel and the Dragon, Prayer of Manasseh, and I & II Maccabees.

Living Bible – $39.95
The Living Bible is a "thought for thought" translation as opposed to a word for word translation. This is a paraphrase. Its purpose, according to the editors, is to say as exactly as possible what the writers of the Scriptures meant, and to say it simply, expanding where necessary for a clear understanding by the modern reader.

Louis Segond 1910 (French Bible) – $19.95
This is the classic French equivalent of the English King James Version.

Message, The - Peterson, Eugene H. – $39.95

The Message brings the life-changing power of the New Testament, the vibrant passion of the Psalms, and the rich, practical wisdom of Proverbs into easy-to-read modern language that echoes the rhythm and idioms of the original Greek and Hebrew.

Nestle Aland 26th Edition Greek NT with McReynolds English Interlinear – $129.95
Some English interlinears are heavily contextual and non-literal, distancing the reader from the basic, literal sense of the Greek. Others are woodenly literal or archaic, thus not very helpful for English comprehension. The McReynolds interlinear strikes an optimal balance, conforming closely to the Greek, yet being up-to-date, easy-to-read English. The English interlinear for the Logos NA26 Interlinear edition was prepared by Prof. Paul R. McReynolds (Pacific Christian College). The Logos NA26, Interlinear Edition, provides all the functionality of the standard morphological NA26 and now adds multi-line interlinear support. The text allows multi-line display, with columnar alignment of associated word groups, adjustable ordering of lines, user definable selection of the order from top to bottom of each row, the full grammatical information, Greek text, Greek lemmas, morphological analysis, English gloss, and now also the English interlinear word(s). NOTE: The McReynolds' English Interlinear includes the Nestle-Aland 26th text in its original, non-interlinear form. (You will have two electronic books: the NA26 w/ Morphology and the McReynolds' Interlinear described above.) Users who already own the LLS-format NA26 w/ Morphology can upgrade to the McReynolds' Interlinear edition for $29.95
by telephone order ONLY.

Nestle.Aland 26th Edition (Morph) – Kurt Aland, Matthew Black, Carlo M. Martini, Burce - $99.95
Sometimes referred to as the "critical text" or the "eastern manuscript tradition," this is the Greek text most widely used today. It is the basis for nearly every modern Bible translation in the past one hundred years. The Greek text is identical to the Nestle-Aland 26th/27th Edition. The GRAMCORD morphological concordance of the Greek text is one of the most highly regarded works of its kind in the academic world. Designed to meet the needs of Bible scholars and utilizing the language of seminary environment, this work is desired by the practicing clergy as well as the academic. The Logos Library System implementation of the GRAMCORD data base offers the additional usefulness of a non-technical interface, thereby allowing an even broader audience access to the data.

New American Standard Bible – $49.95
New American Standard Bible, while preserving the literal accuracy of the 1901 American Standard Version has sought to render grammar and terminology in contemporary English. Special attention has been given to the rendering of verb tenses to give the English reader a rendering as close as possible to the sense of the original Greek and Hebrew texts. Passages with Old English "thee's" and "thou's" etc. have been updated to modern English, along with updates to words whose meanings have changed in the past 20 years. This is an excellent choice for comparative English study.

New American Standard Bible – 1995 Update - $49.95
The New American Standard Bible, long considered a favorite study Bible by serious students of the Scriptures, has been completely revised and updated in this new 1995 translation. Preserving the Lockman Foundation's standard of creating a literal translation of the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic manuscripts, the 1995 NASB provides a literal translation that is very readable. Formalized language and outdated words and phrases have been replaced with their contemporary counterparts. In short, the 1995 NASB is a Bible translation that is very conducive to word-by-word study and is also able to be read (and understood) by the whole family.

New Century Version – $29.95
The NCV is a new translation from the Greek and Hebrew, compiled by a team of more than 40 Bible scholars whose primary objective is "language simplicity." It is the ideal translation for readers with English as their second language.

New Jerusalem Bible – $39.95
This translation, often used in the Catholic Church, follows the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. For the Old Testament the "Masoretic Text" established in the 8-9th centuries AD by Jewish scholars, is used. Only when this presents insuperable difficulties have emendations or other versions, such as the ancient Greek translation begun in 200 BC at Alexandria, the "Septuagint" (LXX), been used.

New King James Version – $39.95
The New King James Version is a total update of the 1611 King James Version, also known as the "Authorized Version." Every attempt has been made to maintain the beauty of the original version while updating the English grammar to contemporary style and usage. The result is much better "readability." It is noteworthy that the NKJV is one of the few modern translations still based on the "Western" or "Byzantine" manuscript tradition. This makes the New King James Version an invaluable aid to comparative English Bible study.

New Living Translation – $39.95
The Holy Bible, New Living Translation provides a wonderful balance of readability and authority. It is easy to understand, poetically beautiful, powerful, and emotive. At the same time, due to the careful work of ninety leading Bible scholars, it is accurate to the original Greek and Hebrew text. The New Living Translation makes the Bible accessible, useful, and enjoyable for every situation. The easy-to-read, clear text is perfect for comparative study of difficult passages.

New Revised Standard Version – $39.95

The RVA uses a contemporary language that people can understand throughout the Spanish speaking world.

It is published with ecclesiastical approval and by agreement with the Standard Bible Committee and the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. The Revised Standard Version itself needs no lengthy introduction, being already well know and widely read. It is, as its Preface states “an authorized revision of the American Standard Version, published in 1901, which was a revision of the King James Version published in 1611.

Septuagint (Morph) – $99.95
The Septuagint (LXX ) is the Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures, which according to tradition was done by seventy Jewish scholars (hence the name) sometime in the 3rd century BC. It is the Bible which the Greek-speaking world read during the time of the apostles, to which Paul would have referred in his dealings with his churches. The Rahlf's edition is the most modern critical edition of this text. The morphology, prepared by the University of Pennsylvania, gives the user the ability to draw parsing and glossary information directly from the text, which is especially important because the Greek of the LXX is significantly different from that of the NT.

Staten Vertaling (Dutch Bible) – $19.95
This is the classic Dutch equivalent of the English King James Version (Authorized Version) and, like the Authorized Version, was completed in the 1600's. Both the KJV and the Staten Vertaling shared common source materials.

Tanakh (1985) – $39.95
The Tanakh is an entirely original translation of the Holy Scriptures (Old Testament) into contemporary English, based on the Masoretic-the traditional Hebrew text. It is the culmination of three decades of collaboration by academic scholars and rabbis representing the three largest branches of organized Judaism in America. They drew upon the latest findings in linguistics and archaeology as well as the work of early rabbinic and medieval commentators, grammarians, and philologians. The resulting text is a triumph of literary style and biblical scholarship, unsurpassed in accuracy and clarity.

Textus Receptus 1550 – $39.95
Coming from the "western" or "Byzantine" manuscript tradition, the Textus Receptus 1550 Greek text is best known as the basis for the King James Version or Authorized Version completed in the year 1611. Today, with most modern English translations based on the "eastern" manuscripts, there is renewed curiosity and interest in the "western" text. This is a valuable add-on to the Logos Bible software library and a useful text for comparison for those with proficiency in Greek.

Textus Receptus 1881 – $24.95
Coming from the "western" or "Byzantine" manuscript tradition, the Textus Receptus 1881 Greek text is the corresponding Greek text to the 1611 King James Version. The Scrivener text is a modified Stephen's 1550 Textus Receptus in which changes have been inserted to represent the alternate "majority readings" chosen by the KJV translators. The intention was to re-create a Greek text that exactly matched the translator-modified 1550 text and the resulting English version. This is a useful text for comparison for those with proficiency in Greek.

Tischendorf Greek NT – $39.95
Constantinus Tischendorf is perhaps best known for his discovery of the Codex Sinaiticus (one of the oldest extant copies of the New Testament in Greek, circa 360 A.D.) in a monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai. Tischendorf devoted his life to locating the most accurate sources for the compilation of the Greek New Testament. This desire for the earliest, most reliable manuscripts drove him for most of his life. The result of this drive is Tischendorf's Eighth Edition Greek New Testament, completed just two years prior to his death, and considered by many to be his best.

Vulgate – Bonifation Fischer - $39.95
Jerome's translation of the Greek and Hebrew Scriptures into the vulgar (common) tongue of his time: Latin. It was recognized as authoritative during the Council of Trent (1546) and became the official Bible of the Roman Catholic Church. The widespread use of the Vulgate is also recognizable in its influence in early modern Bible translations, such as the Authorized, or King James, Version. Since Jerome lived in the fourth century AD, the original text "developed" much as the Greek autographs did, with geographical variant readings, etc., and the modern edition is a critical text from these variant manuscripts, much as is the case with modern Greek texts. The Vulgate continues to be of scholarly use today in the study of the textual transmission of the Bible and in the historical study of Christian theology.

Westcott-Hort Greek NT (1881) – Westcott, B.F. and Hort, F.J.A. - $29.95
According to Bruce M Metzger, this edition was "the most noteworthy critical edition of the Greek Testament ever produced by British scholarship." They presented what is doubtless the oldest and purest text that could be attained with the means of information available in their day. They took the critical methodology which was then in nascent form, refined it, and applied it to the various texts, producing the classification system which is still in use today; their evaluation of the various texts and text families, almost unchanged, is still accepted. This text, published in 1881, is the first modern critical text and as such the ancestor of the NA/UBS text. It is of use to those interested in the history of textual scholarship and to those who do serious critical work.

Young's Literal Translation – $19.95
Robert Young is best known for his monumental work, Young's Analytical Concordance To The Bible. Young's Literal Translation is a very good work to add to your Bible collection for text comparisons. Since this is a very literal translation, it offers a good contrast and comparison to a dynamic equivalent translation like the NIV.

Christmas Carol – Dickens, Charles - Free! This short novel by Charles Dickens, originally published in 1843 and conceived and written in a few weeks, is perhaps the outstanding Christmas myth of modern literature. Through a series of spectral visions, the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is allowed to review his life and to change its outcome. The Ghost of Christmas Past reveals vignettes of Scrooge's early life as a schoolboy, an apprentice, and a young man in love. The Ghost of Christmas Present reveals to Scrooge that joy has little to do with wealth; together they visit the homes of Bob Cratchit, Scrooge's much abused clerk, and of his generous nephew Fred, who has married for love. Finally the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come allows Scrooge a vision of what his end will be like if he continues on his present course--he will die despised and unmourned. After witnessing these scenes Scrooge is a changed man. He immediately sets about mending his ways, becoming generous and thoughtful and thereby finding redemption and joy. A timeless story the whole family will enjoy!

It shows the nuances in word meanings and explains difficult expressions and idiomatic usages of words, and even provides advice on how words might be translated under various conditions.
